Shabad Hazare
(Guru Arjan Dev)
My soul longs for a sight of the Guru.
It bewails like the pied cuckoo.
My thirst is not quenched nor peace I find,
without the sight of the Beloved Guru Saint.
I am a sacrifice and my soul I sacrifice
unto the sight of the Beloved Guru.
Thy face is beautiful and the sound of
Thine word imparts divine knowledge.
it is long since the sparrowhawk had a glimpse of water.
Blessed is the land where Thou livest,
O venerable divine Guru, my friend and intimate.
If I met Thee not even for a moment, then the dark age dawned for me.
When shall I now meet Thee, O my beloved auspicious Lord.
I cannot pass the night and sleep does not
come to me without beholding the Guru's court.
I am a sacrifice and I sacrifice my soul
unto that true court of the venerable Guru.
It is my good fortune to have met the saintly Guru.
The immortal Lord I have found in my own home.
I will now serve Thee and even for a trice and
a moment will not separate from thee.
Servant Nanak is a slave of thine O revered Master.
I am devoted and my soul is devoted unto Thee
Servant Nanak is a slave of Thine O revered master.
Sat Nam.

This is a beautiful shabad written by Guru Arjan Dev. He wrote this before he was Guru at a time when he was away from Guru Ram Das. The feelings of intense longing and devotion to the Guru are also evoked by listening to raag Majh which is the raag that this shabad was written in. Just a few minutes ago I was listening to this in the title raag (raag Majh) it is absolutely beautiful.
WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa, WaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh!
Right on brother! My wife told me to chant this, as I was feeling the longing, and it aligned me properly to the longing for God, not the longing for her. WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa, WaheGuru Ji KI Fateh!
The second song on this mp3:
http://www.akji.org/singhangad/DrGurnamSingh/01%20Sri,%20Majh,%20Gauri,%20Gauri%20Guareri,%20Gauri%20Dakhani.mp3
is Mera Man Lochay in the proper raag. It starts around 11 minutes in.
Sopurkh? Singh? Khalsa? Can we be friends again?
